En 1983, amb la voluntat d’afavorir un apropament entre l’exèrcit i la societat civil, la incipient Generalitat Valenciana i la Capitania General de València, van signar un conveni consistent en organitzar unes rutes culturals per als militars de reemplaçament. Cada una d’elles contaria amb un llibret de text bilingüe repartit a la tropa, el qual tractaria dels monuments respectius. La maquetació era molt cuidada, mentre que la impressió, en blanc i negre, no acompanyava. M’encomanaren la ruta de Xàtiva i Montesa, de la que es van haver de fer dos edicions cadascuna de cinc mil exemplars, fa molts anys exhaurits. Si bé el text divulgatiu no aportava cap novetat i palesava un ús metodològic encara en formació, en canvi, el llibret té el gran interès de constituir un document, un testimoni gràfic de l’estat d’abandonament i descura del patrimoni monumental en el moment de la transició democràtica del segle XX, heretat dels anys de la més destructiva especulació immobiliària.

En 1983, con la voluntad de propiciar un acercamiento entre el ejército y la sociedad civil, la incipiente Generalitat Valenciana y la Capitanía General de Valencia, firmaron un convenio consistente en organizar unas rutas culturales para los militares de reemplazo. Cada una de ellas contaría con un libro de texto bilingüe repartido a la tropa, el cual trataría de los monumentos respectivos. La maquetación era muy cuidada, mientras que la impresión, en blanco y negro, no acompañaba. Me encargaron la ruta de Xàtiva y Montesa, de la que se hicieron dos ediciones, cada una de cinco mil ejemplares, agotados desde hace muchos años. Si bien el texto divulgativo no aportaba ninguna novedad y hacía patente un uso metodológico aún en formación, el librito tiene el gran interés de constituir un documento, un testimonio gráfico del estado de abandono y deterioro del patrimonio monumental en el momento de la transición democrática del siglo XX, heredado de los años de la más destructiva especulación inmobiliaria.

In 1983, with the aim of promoting a rapprochement between the army and civil society, the incipient Generalitat Valenciana and the General Military Government of Valencia, signed an agreement to organize cultural routes for the army reserves. Each of them would be covered by a bilingual textbook, dealing with the respective monuments, which would be distributed to the troops. The layout was very carefully elaborated, while the printing, in black and white, did not match it. I was commissioned to write about the route between Xàtiva and Montesa, of which only two editions of five thousand copies were made, which have been out of print for many years. Although the informative text did not provide any novelty and made evident a methodological use still in the making, the booklet is very interesting because it constitutes a document, a graphic testimony of the state of abandonment and decay of the monument heritage at the time of the Spanish democratic transition of the 20th century, inherited from years of the most destructive real estate speculation.
